What Documents are Required in Garment Export Business?

Posted on October 1, 2021July 10, 2026 By Admin No Comments on What Documents are Required in Garment Export Business?

When garment manufacturers ship goods to other countries they need to prepare export documentation. For exporting apparel goods to the buyer’s country normally following documentation are required.

A commercial invoice (prepared by the exporter):

The commercial invoice is a key document in the international trade. In addition to playing  an essential role in the commercial transaction, it has an important function as a source of information and supporting document for administrative procedures in the importing and exporting countries. Refer to the following sample commercial invoice.

An Origin Certificate, duly completed and certified (by customs or Chamber of Commerce):

Origin is the “economic” nationality of goods traded in commerce. It is necessary to determine the nationality and tariff classification of goods in order to be able to determine the duties and equivalent charges or any customs restrictions or obligations applicable to them.

A customs declaration, duly passed through customs (could be manual or electronic)

This is a statement showing goods being imported on which duty will have to be paid.

Shipping documents:

Shipping documents include packing list and bill of lading/airway bill.
Note that under the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) the EU countries expect customs to authenticate the Certificate of Origin while the U.S. will normally accept authentication from the Chamber of Commerce.
P.S.: The above list of documents are for your information purpose. This might not be complete list for your country. So, you should double check with Govt. official before exporting goods.
